The eighth pretest release of GNU RCS (Revision Control System) is available at: <http://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/rcs/>.
NEWS summary since 5.7.96:
- small bugfixes for rlog output of "midline" (no trailing LF) strings
- (regression introduced 2010-05-24) log messages
- (long-standing but rarely triggered) description
- silence compiler warning in tests/btdt.c
- add cygwin support
- bundle LGPL ucontext library by Panagiotis E. Hadjidoukas
- avoid PATH search and use ‘execvp’ if build host defines ‘EXEEXT’
- (testing) inhibit RCS file read-only checks for cygwin
- add support for some date-only (no time) formats (for -dDATE)
- YYYY-DDD (ordinal day of year)
- YYYY-wWW-D (ISO week and day), extended to DTRT for week ‘00’
Barring further reports, we aim to release 5.8 in the next few weeks. I encourage people to join those listed in THANKS, using the testing support, to flush out problems and/or try out the new functionality. Please send bug reports to bug-rcs (at gnu, etc).
