Savannah down-time
Item posted by Loïc Dachary <loic> on Fri 25 May 2001 08:41:50 PM UTC.
I expect to switch from the current Savannah machine to the new on Sunday
morning, EST (Boston, US). Due to delays in DNS server updates it is
possible that you will still be going to the old during an hour or two.
By Sunday night the switch will be over and I invite you to complain to
savannah-hackers@gnu.org if you're still having problems.
Yesterday the new Savannah machine was installed by Barton Bruce, Joel
N. Weber II, Mark H. Weaver and myself. It is now sitting in a rack at
Global Naps, together with its UPS and a switch. Joel will install
today a small NetBSD machine that will only be used to power-cycle
Savannah remotely if needs be.
The installation was rather painless. It required Joel to write a
minimal program to talk to the EMP port (serial port on which you can
send strings that power cycle the machine). I also had the opportunity
to learn how to properly divert the console to a serial line. Looking
at the boot screen and the bios of the machine from an xterm is kind
of cool.
