GNU Paint is switching to git, starting from the Debian pkg-gpaint git repo as a base. Immediate work will be to port the existing code to gtk+ 3. Later plans are moving the code base to vala and to make use of GEGL

* Switch to using libglade; now libglade is a requirement for gpaint
* some UI adjustment in dialogs to fit the GNOME convention; using the Gtk+

The initial port to the GNOME 2 platform is now available. It is mostly feature-identical as the GNOME 1.4 version although some bug fixes were made. This version is named "gpaint-2" to allow parallel installation of both GNOME 1,4 and GNOME 2 versiosns of gpaint.

This is mainly a bug fix release, fixing build problems on the recent GNOME 1.4 platform. The next target will be port to GNOME 2.

This release provides significant usability imprivements over previos releases. These improvements, contributed by Michael A. Meffie III (meffiem@neo.rr.com),
include the rearrangement of menus so they are easier to understand and
accessible, more sensible default color settings. Also first implementation of brushes and bug fixes.

Gpaint releases (current and future) are/will be available from alpha.gnu.org at
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/gpaint
This will be the primiary distribution mechanism until version 1.0, at which gpaint will be distributed via ftp.gnu.org.

A new version has been released. It contains minor updates and fixes to the user interface (giant icons now shrinked!)
It also marks the return of active development of gpaint after a year of inactivity. I may soon move directly to the GNOME 2 platform (that seems more productive for my time) but I have not made decision yet.
Next steps will be zooming support and bonoboization.
