This has been fixed by Kai as part of the move to Fosshost in the past few months. The news is now at https://octave.org/news.html and lists current versions.

Closing as fixed but it can be reopened if necessary.

Was looking back through web.archive.org to see where the page change happened, and I noticed that:

https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/NEWS.html

and

https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/news.html

are different pages.  NEWS.html contains a copy of the 4.2 Release Notes.  news.html contains the rss style release headlines, and is what google takes me to when I search Octave news.

I think NEWS.html needs to be removed, since it's not been updated since v4.2, and just the individual NEWS-x.html pages should be left. Then, rather than scrolling through the feed for individual releases, a header similar to the NEWS-x.html pages could be added pointing to individual release notes.

I fixed the wiki at https://wiki.octave.org/Release_History to point to 7 instead of 7.1.

Not sure why https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/NEWS.html points to 4.2 but at least there are links at the top to all versions including 7.

The wiki page https://wiki.octave.org/Release_History contains a link to https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/NEWS-7.1.html, but that page doesn't exist (yet?). Should it, or is the wiki wrong?

Should there be a canonical URL, for example https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/NEWS.html, that always links to the latest version? For me it seems to redirect to version 4.2, maybe it doesn't get updated automatically with the release process?

Basically, I was trying to find an official announcement or the NEWS file for the latest release online, but I haven't been successful yet. Very low key release.
