I made some changes to the documentation for "return" in this changeset (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/bca7aebe3e2d) that hopefully make it clearer.

for exit/quit, recommend adding "return" to See also.

for return, recommend adding that return will also stop execution of a script, and is usually preferred to exit since exit will stop Octave.
