Fri 05 Feb 2021 09:22:28 AM UTC, comment #1: This is expected behaviour in TeXmacs. Ctrl-Backspace is reserved for removing tags. E.g. make some text bold, enter that piece of text and press Ctrl-Backspace. Or try the shortcut in mathematical content such as inside brackets or in a fraction.

I am, on my windows installation, having issues with "Ctrl+backspace" not deleting the preceding word but instead doing nothing. The same goes for "Ctrl+delete". I was expecting this behaviour, as it works in all other text edits I encounter.

Yes, control-delete has been reserved for the more frequent task of removing the innermost enclosing tag. Since Ctrl+Shift+Leftarrow allows you to quickly select the previous word, this should not really be a problem, as yoy may simply press delete after selecting the text that you wish to delete.
