The offending commit is 8625609c from two days ago. It introduces a helping variable and assigns, but then goes and reallocates the line's data. :| Oops. |

(The problem only became apparent when adding text at the end of a buffer, on fresh lines, not while editing somewhere in the middle of a buffer.)
