  The "test-groff" from "master" showed no failure.

  The reason for the failure was a stripped an-old.tmac file,
which I had not updated.

  Thanks for the help.

  Ticket can be closed.

If i read the original submission correctly - as usual, Bjarni doesn't really explain properly what he is doing - he uses the groff-1.22.4 from the Debian package for testing.  Of course, the test is expected to fail with that because the 1.22.4 release still contained that bug, and this test aims to make sure that the bug is fixed.

In any case, the remedy suggested by Bjarni is totally bogus.  Of course the .AT macro is not supposed to come after a page transition.  In fact, .AT usually is the second macro in a file, see https://svnweb.freebsd.org/csrg/lib/libc/gen/getgrent.3?annotate=47718 for a typical real-world example.

Please close this ticket as invalid.

Can you reproduce this failure with the stock `test-groff`?

  I have not installed a version of my git repository.
So the "groff" is from /usr/bin/groff (Debian).

  My "test-groff" can be different from yours.

Well, that's odd.  The tests pass for me or I wouldn't have pushed the commit that introduced them.

Can you attach your copy of test-suite.log produced by this test run to this bug?

Subject: Test for the macro "AT" fails

  The first test in
"groff/tmac/tests/an-old_AT_and_UC_footer_saved_and_restored.sh"
fails both with "groff/build/test-groff" and
"/usr/bin/groff (Debian GNU groff version 1.22.4)".

  The .AT and .UC macros must come after a page transition.

  These macros should give a warning
if they are called when no page transition has occurred,
something like:

.if \\n[nl]<=0 \{\
.  tm \\n[.F]:\\n[.c]: The macro \\$0 must be used later
.  tm in the input, e.g., after the text for the first .SH macro.
.\}

  This fact should also be documented in groff_man.7.man.
