i haved checked this before i wrote here ;-)
but i try it again:

gnubg appears in the taskmanager in the section "Hintergrundprozesse" (background processes)
when i am starting gnubg,
but it disappears when the sound breaks and that without any message.

i know that it runs on win8, but not on my surface pro with win8 :-(

is there any other gui for gnubg? especially for a touchscreen?

You said "i just hear the beginning from the fanfare sound that break and the programm stop without a message."

Interesting, so when it appears to crash there is no error message. This is good information. Are you sure that the program stops? Is it possible it is running but the GNUBG Window is hidden? Can you load up the graphical GNUBG, then load the task manager (you can get to it with the keyboard using Ctrl-Shift-Esc ). Click on the "processes" tab and look for anything starting with "gnubg" or "gnubg.exe". If GNUBG is in the task manager process list but isn't showing the GUI then it means it didn't crash but is hidden somewhere. If GNUBG.EXE is not in the process list then it really did exit without a warning. Knowing this will be helpful.

Our product does run on Windows 8. Unfortunately, I don't own a Surface Pro.

I try all three setup options:

-universal
-sse2
-avx

but all three have the same problem. I try the windows "Kompatibilitätsmodus" windows XP SP3 too, but the same problem with the different that here opens a error windows: gnubg.exe funktioniert nicht mehr

I try to install the gnugb ver 1.00 before, but there i get error by the setup and so i search for the newest version gnubg 1.02

Only the CLI works fine. I try another thing, to reduce the font resolution to 100%, because i know that sometimes programms have a problem with the 125% font.
But that doesn't help, i just hear the beginning from the fanfare sound that break and the programm stop without a message.

windows 8 is full patched on the surface pro.

Have you any idea?

Had you ever successfully used an older version of GNUBG on your surface pro?

One other thing you can try is reinstall GNUBG but when the installer asks you for the version try the "Universal Build" (rather than the default AVX build. I'd like to know if the universal version does the same thing.

With the universal version if you do the buildinfo command it WON'T say "SSE/SSE2 Enabled" or "AVX Enabled".

Using the CLI (which works), can you let me know what version is displayed when you launch the CLI. It should be the first line displayed. I am aware you'r bug report says what version you installed. Because of a deployment issue I need to know. I also need to know what the last line of this command (at the CLI) says:

show buildinfo

It will say either "Use AVX" or use "Use SSE/SSE2".

Were you able to use previous versions of GNU Backgammon? Or is this the first time you have used it on you Surface Pro?
