The new version continues to loose the default settings, like the board, analysis, sound setting etc. although the player names are now correctly kept.

It is not easy to replicate this but the best way to experience it is by opening a number of .sgf files (4-6) simultaneously.

Fixes related to these problems were added in early July 2011 and are in the current distribution at http://www.gnubg.org/

If you have already upgraded since you opened this bug report, could you confirm if the way player names are now handled suits you ?

If you still run on older version, could you upgrade and check the new behaviour ?

My default player settings are "gnubg" vs "myself". When I load another *.sgf file with other player settings and analyze that game and save it, my default settings get lost permanently.
