By design, updatedb now uses the C locale (see the NEWS file for findutils 4.7.0, and also https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?46846).  This avoids problems with path names whose components are encoded in incompatible locales.

This makes it infeasible to ignore case, since the implementation would need to identify the character encoding of each component in the current path name, and this information is not recorded by the operating system.

In specifying pathnames with updatedb (--{{local,net}paths, prune{fs,paths}}, there is no way to ignore case  --something considered necessary for search options on 'find', even though said implementation is flawed(inconsistent) (see http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?32976 ).

While this could be considered an RFE if updatedb and find were not in the same package, they fact that they are means updatedb's implementation is inconsistent with find's would would place this issue in the realm of a design deficiency (flaw/bug).

Note: fixing this bug depends on bug #32976 being fixed first.
