I tried hard to build from SVN (on top of what the Windows installers gave me) and finally succeeded, but now my app works no longer. So I obviously have to wait for the release.

Nevertheless it's likely safe to close this bug, as the mechanism works as designed. In case I can come up with a more efficient design, I'll post a new bug ... err ... enhancement request.

As matt pointed out this log message was removed from SVN and so the issue should be solved in current SVN code.
As there will be a new release soon, you may either switch to use SVN or wait for that release.

With "grep" and "strings" I can find this message in /GNUstep/System/Tools/gnustep-gui-0_16.dll .

Correction to the original report: Running the app with "openapp" isn't sufficient, you have to run it in gdb, with "debugapp", to see the messages.

Further playing around obviously found the culprit of the "critical error": The .gorm file for the document interface of the document based app was missing. After adding this interface, the app starts to be useful.

The complaints about the missing services menu continue to appear, though. Hundreds of them if you click and drag a lot.

Fred, the log was removed about 2 months ago.

I just searched for this error message and I cannot find it anywhere in the GNustep source code. (Am I looking in the wrong places?)

Perhaps it would help, if you run the same progam on a Unix system first and investigate the issue there? That way we could try to figure out, what is causing the problem.

This is Windows XP in a virtual machine with GNUstep installed from the current set of installers:

- gnustep-system-0.22.0
- gnustep-core-0.22.0
- gnustep-devel-1.0.0
- SystemPreferences-1.0.2.7
- gorm-1.2.8
- ProjectCenter-0.5.0

As I plan to make a standalone application running without further GNUstep environment I use a main menu without a "Services" entry. Actually, it's a menu created in InterfaceBuilder on Mac OS X, converted to a Gorm.

When running this app via "openapp ..." GNUstep complains over and over again:

"... ... Services menu not in main menu!"

At the same time my application shows an alert window "critical error in <name of the app>". The field for the text of the  error is empty, but there's a scrollbar. I can't test wether both misbehaviours are related as I can't add the services menu (see https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?26413 ).

Anyways, clicking either "debug" or "abort" or anywhere else in the error popup results in a crash: Windows complains with a generic "Visual C++ Runtime Library, Runtime error! <path of the app's .exe>"
