What privileges are needed to write to /var/lock ?
On my SUSE-box, that directory is only group writable uucp.
We prefer to run screen without root-sbit whereever possible, so setting the Lock gets difficult. Any Ideas?

As per https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/screen/+bug/13211

Screen, when used as a terminal onto a serial port, does not lock the serial port.
