this bug has become an amazing spam attractor for savannah.
"locking". at least i think that will do it. in the unlikely event of any gnash developer actually working on it ever again, we can clean it up. --karl

Some of the sites are working great with the menus over the flash,
but on some site, the pull-down menus appear in front of the flash movie like stated before, but the login form appears behind it...
I'm seeing the same behaviour on this site

I lied. In fact, this site works correctly in Chromium with the same Gnash plugin that fails in Firefox.

This site acts funny: https://www.tiaa-cref.org/public/index.html
The pull-down menus appear in front of the flash movie, but the login form appears behind it. Works fine with the proprietary Adobe flash plugin.
This is Gnash 0.8.9-20110405-none running on Firefox 4.0.1, where Mozilla bug #137189 has presumably already been fixed. I'm seeing the same behavior in Chromium as well.

We need to implement a windowless mode for the plugin to get this working properly.

AFAIK this is a problem only in Linux and probably only with Firefox.
This happens on pretty much any website where html menus and flash content is used.
Example websites:
http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html
If you hover cursor over "Download Drivers", "Shop", "Products", "Technologies" etc. the menu content is rendered under the flash content.
http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObjects/WWW.woa/wa/vp?vp=Home&language=english
On this website, if you hover your cursor over "VEHICLES", "PROMOTIONS", "SERVICE" etc. you'll see the same as above, flash content is rendered over menu options.
Now this behavior is very consistent. I have yet to see a website where html menus are rendered over flash content.
This bug was also reported in Firefox, but has apparently been fixed:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137189
This was also a problem with the Adobe Flash plugin, but as mentioned in the bug description, this is apparently something that had to be fixed in both plugin and browser.
Thanks guys, you do a great job. I pull your CVS almost every week and the improvements over the last year has been amazing!
