@jwe: Thank you very much "help CLASSNAME.METHOD" works like a charm on stable and default.

Should I open a separate report about "help class.var"?

This item I would consider as closed.

I grafted the changesets linked in comment #3 to stable and also applied one more changeset to stable and merged with default:

http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/49f4d7814760

This last change allows "help CLASSNAME.METHOD" to work for classdef methods when the method is defined in a separate file and has not been used or loaded before attempting to get access its doc string.

If you consider your changes suitable for Octave 6, too, I would be very interested to get this feature already with Octave 6.  Octave 7 might be release in 1 to 2 years from now.

If the parser did not change too much, I can try to graft them back to stable (Octave 6).

I mistyped, I intended them to go on default but we could consider grafting them to stable.

jwe, thank you very much for this amazing feature update.  For Octave's classdef classes and for a project of mine (using Matlab doc-strings) it works great =)

Your patches went on default (aka Octave 7), not stable as you wrote.  Is this correct?  Then this item can be closed.

Remaining features, such as help display for member documentations

help class.var
help class.meth

should be addressed in a separate bug report.

I haven't seen this error with the build, I don't think this is still a "build failure" item. Specficially, inputParser does show up in the manual even though the "help" function doesn't find it.

So "help inputParser" fails but "doc inputParser" works.

The problem is the new class 'inputParser' which is a classdef class and not a normal function.

Although the class is documented, it seems to fail to recognize it. This is the first classdef function in Octave so there's kinks like that which need to be ironed. Because the docstring should be included in the manual, this causes the documentation build to fail.

Note that the error message is incorrect. The message says "'inputParser' is not documented" but it is. The bug seems to come from get_help_text() which does not recognize it as such and returns "not documented".

I have check out the development source yesterday (21 Aug., 2014).
and tried to build.

The build failed during making docimentation.
