The handling of such files was changed in 1.3.5, when support for multiple +LINE entries as well as multiple files was added. Unfortunately, the "--" option you suggest would be incompatible with that. However, there's a FAQ entry in 1.3.5-cvs that should help explain how to open those files in both normal and multibuffer mode. Basically, a string beginning with "+" and followed by something else is treated as a line number, while whatever it's followed with is treated as a filename; while a string beginning with "+" and not followed by anything is treated as a filename.

Hope this clears things up. Sorry for the wait.

I can't specify files whose paths begin with a + character on the nano command line. Supporting the standard GNU option processing idiom of -- to stop option processing, would solve this problem.
