Unfortunately we do not currently have the resources to track down wishlist requests. Please reopen this bug if you can provide a patch, or if you're willing to work on this feature.

Thanks

You can have the time (but not the date) shown if you use
SUSE's gfxboot patch. You have to code some postscript
first, though.

This would be a nice feature IMHO, but it cannot work
correctly in a boot loader. Here's the reason.

The BIOS clock has a time, without timezone information.
Modern operating systems think in UTC, not in local time.
Hence they have to know which timezone they are in to show
the local time to the user. And they have to know what time
the BIOS shows and the BIOS clock has to be set accordingly.
Some of them prefer the BIOS to show the local time. Others
prefer if the BIOS is set to UTC. E.g. on a server machine
this is the easiest and clearest way to always remain
correct, not disturbed by daylight saving time changes.
In some OSes it is configurable. Some OSes automatically
adjust the BIOS time if they detect a DST change has
elapsed. In this case all the user sees is that everything
is okay, however, if grub would show the time, he'd notice
an hour difference, probably corrected it in BIOS and then
booted the OS which adjusted it again and the result would
be wrong.

I guess no-one wants to add timezone definition files,
an option to choose UTC vs. localtime, ability to perform
DST changes etc. to a boot loader.

And it's better not displaying anything if such issues
prevent displaying always the right value.

It would be nice if Grub would support an ever-updating date and time readout on the menu screen.
