gnubg plays at a very high level, which can look like it's cheating.
Try changing the playing strength to a lower setting. Or try using manual dice for a while to convince your self that the dice are fair.

I noticed right away that the computer side of the game gets far more doubles than the human side - I tracked the number of doubles for several games and in every game the computer side had more - sometime a few, once 15 to my 6. And of the doubles I get, most of them are unusable because I have no moves available. In fact, I have noticed that most of the time, the first set of doubles I see is when I am on the rail.

What's up? Why aren't the dice random? Life is...
