Preferences are now handled more directly in C++. The new implementation should therefore be less error prone. We did not have any recent complaints, so I think that this bug can now be closed.

This is very hard to reproduce, if still current at all. Please reopen if necessary.

Sometimes/often all my preferences (set in Edit->Preferences) are forgotten at startup. I don't know why. It may have to do with my use of maxima session (sometimes I have to quit without closing the session because it has "frozen").
