It seems that grub-0.95cvs-romfs.diff was written by Tommi Virtanen . Added to CC.
Tommi, did you take code from other sources when writing that patch?

Hi Robert,
Those were on the original grub-0.95cvs-romfs.diff. I'll try to sort them out at the same time than I'll port the patch against grub2. At least I'll try to fix what's obvious (I'm not the author of the original code).

Nice.
I have a comment though. The typedefs you copied from asm-i386/types.h seems to indicate that you copied code from other sources. You need to indicate their copyrights in the license header, since the maintainers might have some legal requisites with regard to that.
It's always better to resolve the legal stuff before the technical, because of the risk that your work wouldn't be useful.

Hi Robert,
I guess that I could have time to do so after Christmas. I already checked out Grub 2 code but didn't have time to spend more time playing with it yet.

Hi Valtteri
Could you please update your patch for GRUB 2 ?

Tue 13 Nov 2007 03:30:39 PM UTC, comment #8:
It seems that for example ext2 supports software raid devices and support for that was missing in original patch. I added missing support to grub-0.97cvs-2-romfs.diff.
Also I noted comment on wiki page that new features wont be merged to grub legacy, I'll probably have to test grub2 at some point.

I fixed the grub-0.95cvs-romfs.diff patch, is there any possibility to get this merged?

I tried to update the romfs patch starting from Dave Airlie's version here http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-grub/2003-06/msg00005.html, but it no longer compiles. Anyone have an idea? -unavailable-

There is a cramfs patch posted to grub-bug, originally by Russ Dill.

Here's a patch that implements romfs support for grub.
It's nowhere near perfect, but does boot. -unavailable-

I'll second this one. Writing drivers for the two is on my very long todo, but for some reasons I never seem to get there..
Both use relatively simple structures, but cramfs requires parts of zlib.. (included in grub).

Support for read-only filesystems cramfs and romfs would be nice. These are used a lot with embedded systems. Both have support in vanilla Linux kernel 2.4.
