We've moved to GRUB 2 as a development platform. Unfortunately, GRUB 2 doesn't have network support yet, although there's ongoing work to implement it. If you want to help on that, please contact <grub-devel@gnu.org>.

In the meantime, this bug doesn't apply. I'm closing it.

Try new patch for Grub-0.95(#9408).
Some blade server may have problem on the PCI probing, I'm still looking for how to fix this :-(

I've been using pxelinux.0, but pxegrub would provide added simplicity in changing the environment of my blades. Right now if I want to move chassis X from cluster A to cluster B, I have to edit 14 files under pxelinux.cfg/. I would only have to edit dhcpd.conf with pxegrub. Even though the process is scripted, I'd rather open one file and make 14 similar changes, instead of opening 14 files to make one change each.

I have problems with the tg3 patch as well, however for your problem you should use pxelinux.0 from the syslinux package which works like a charm booting HS20 blades

I'm trying to use pxegrub (grub-0.94 patched with the grub-0.94-1-0001 & 2 patches) to boot IBM BladeCenter blades. These blades have onboard Broadcom Tigon3 interfaces. I've built pxegrub using "./configure --enable-diskless --enable-tg3". It compiled without incident on a SuSE 9 workstation with gcc-3.3.1 (SuSE's build of gcc) and is delivered via tftp from a Solaris 8 server to the blades when they PXE boot.

When booting the blade, pxegrub loads fine, but reports the following error:

Probing pci nic...
[tg3-5703X]phy probe failed, err -2
Problem fetching invariants of chip, aborting.

[tg3-5703X]Ethernet addr: 00:09:6B:00:86:4E
Tigon3 [partno(BCM95703A31) rev 1002 PHY(serdes)] (PCIX:100MHz:64-bit)
Valid link not established

No ethernet card found.

pxegrub then stops at the "grub>" prompt.

Thanks.
