It seems that this is specific to debian, since the debian
package of axiom does not provide an AXIOMsys executable,
as the standard axiom distro seems to do.

The workaround in the debian package hence does the trick.
I hereby declare this bug closed.

The axiom pluging uses "AXIOMsys" to call axiom. It looks
to me like this was meant to be replaced by the real axiom
executable, but apparently it does not happen.

The obvious patch, when you know how to call axiom, is to
replace AXIOMsys by /usr/bin/axiom. I don't submit this as
a patch since you probably had something more general in mind.
