We've moved to GRUB 2 as a development platform. Unfortunately, GRUB 2 doesn't have network support yet, although there's ongoing work to implement it. If you want to help on that, please contact <grub-devel@gnu.org>.

In the meantime, this bug doesn't apply. I'm closing it.

Hello,
I try to use GRUB for booting a small diskless cluster.
The motherboards are rather old (pentium 200 processors), and the NIC cards are 3COM 905 TX/CX.

When the WOL (wake on LAN) cable is disconnected, everything goes well.
When the WOL cable is connected, eveyrthing goes well until GRUB tries to load the linux kernel image. The network bandwidth then drops to 1 UDP paquet per second.

Notice that until I try to load a kernel image (if I try to look at a big text file using cat (nd)/foobar.txt), the bandwidth is still maximum (~100Mb/s).

Disconnecting the WOL cable and rebooting fixes the problem.

I'm droping the use of WOL, but I would prefer to use it... I tried to understand in the sources of GRUB what are the differences between loading a kernel image and another file wrt to NIC, but I don't know where to begin. Any help would be nice.

The behavior is the same from 0.92 up to the 01/12 cvs
version.

Thomas.
