Agreed, upgrade to a newer version. That is an intresting bug, I would report that to the apt developers. I don't think thats anything to do with phpGW it self.

As far as I know, this is a very old version of phpgroupware. Forget this version and try to find the newest packages (https://alioth.debian.org/scm/?group_id=1342 ?)
