It does contain the version.

tla-1.1pre9 is an abbreviation for the long string
that --version prints.

I don't understand why you wouldn't use the long
version string directly, anyway. What exactly
do you mean by "parsable"?

I need a good parsable string for the GUI application I want to create based on tla, in order to do version checking for various reasons. This is impossible with the current format. It does not contain the version. (which would be what I expect, really :)

I suggest to let the first line which currently reads:
tla lord@emf.net--2003b/dists--release-tla--1.1--patch-9(configs/emf.net/devo.tla.release) from regexps.com

to be replaced, or if you still want the above line prepend it with:
tla 1.1pre9
or
tla 1.2
