Markus,

This is just my thought.

I think there must be reasons or benefits in the past to have the 2nd (or current) url to host the documents.

Logically, when the transition is completed, the original url should be removed, just like how the legacy features in the software are handled.  The question is if the grace period is defined.

I have no objection to close this bug report.

Thanks,

Liang Tang <lt1234>

This sounds like a duplicate of bug #53860.

The sad truth is: No one who's still around knows how to update the documentation for Octave core on SourceForge. So, unless someone will take the time to dig into how that would work, that bug will probably remain open.

It doesn't help if we keep a report open for each single function for which the documentation on SourceForge is outdated.
The only work-around for the time being is to stay away from the documentation for core functions on SourceForge.

Just a note.

octave.org does not contain the documentation for the packages.  Therefore, the documentation of the packages come from other sites.  octave.org does not show up in google search.

sourceforge contains (correct or incorrect) documentation of most, if not all packages & Octave.  These info are found first in google search.

It is not a happy situation.

There's little we can do to lower the score of the old documentation at sourceforge. There are probably to many pages pointing to that old place. (And this report is now another one adding to its score.)

Maybe, it helps to post the link to the supported page with documentation again:
https://docs.octave.org/latest/

Closing this report as invalid.

Thanks.

For me, the internet search on octave documentation always points to the sourceforge sites.

???

help fsolve:

 The third output INFO reports whether the algorithm succeeded and
     may take one of the following values:

<...deleted...>
    -2
          The Jacobian became excessively small and the search stalled.

I see it in 7.3 and 9.0

fsolve documentation does not have any description for info=-2. EXITFLAG in the example below is info.

Example

func=@(x) 0;
X0=0;
[X,FVAL,EXITFLAG,OUTPUT,JACOB] = fsolve(func,X0)

results:

X = 0
FVAL = 0
EXITFLAG = -2
OUTPUT =

  scalar structure containing the fields:

    iterations = 1
    successful = 0
    funcCount = 2

JACOB = 0
