Since the support for speech input in the code, when entering French characters with circumflex or diaeresis (e.g. â,ï), they get prepended with a space in some linux desktop environments (KDE, notably).
debug-keyboard + debug-qt reveal that these DE use an Input Method for entering these characters, and in QTMWidget::inputMethodEvent, such characters become "speech:â", which eventually gets inserted with a space in front. For concrete debug outputs, see http://forum.texmacs.cn/t/cannot-type-a-without-a-space/1260/20
I'm not trying to fix this because I can't test speech input.
