You have an old (self-compiled?) octave installed in /usr/local/*
and then, I presume, you have installed a distro-provided octave
in (agan presumably) /usr/*.

/usr/local/bin usually has a priority over /user/bin
(check your PATH).

Remove the old installation.

Again, this is not a bug. If you need help, post on  https://octave.discourse.group/

Thank you. I installed the most recent version and all appears to be working. Not sure why typing "octave" was trying to open the older version of octave.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.

However, you are using a version that is too old and not
supported anymore. Octave developers are no longer working on
that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes
for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of Octave you could receive bug
fixes and new functionality. Please feel free to reopen this bug
if the problem still occurs with a newer version of Octave.

This is not a bug.
You need to re-compile octave.
Why do you use octave 5.1? It is ancient.

Hello,

I keep getting this error when running GNU Octave after installing it on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LT. I tried installing it from the default package in the "Ubuntu Software" app as well as with "apt" per the Octave wiki. The complete error is:

/usr/local/libexec/octave/5.1.0/exec/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/octave-gui: error while loading shared libraries: libqscintilla2_qt5.so.13: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I think I may have a later version of the library installed.
