Yes, that would be much better for handling whole measure rests, it's just that the Denemo executable program doesn't know what a whole measure rest is. Instead it knows about a generic object (called a Denemo Directive) which contains the LilyPond syntax that it should issue (and data to say what it should draw on the display etc).
This generic mechanism provides a means whereby any user can write a script to do such things as whole measure rests as well as anything else that LilyPond can typeset, but at the expense of making a clunky interface.

Shouldn't a whole measure rest generally have the length of the current time signature instead of some value saved with the rest?

So, now if you set the new time signature for whole measure rests before doing the augment/diminish then they are updated to that time signature while altering the notes/rests.

To be specific while it changes the sounding duration it doesn't change the LilyPond emitted nor the display. What is needed is a script to go through the relevant bars re-calculating the whole measure rests after changing the key signature.
It would be to make this happen automatically if the user changed the time signature before applying Diminsh...

I have selected all the music in a 3/1 time signature and halved all the note values. Then I changed the time signature to 3/2 and all the bars are fine except for the whole measure rests which are still 3/1 whole measure rests, so are now red.
