I'm also experiencing the same issue, and lowering the GFXMODE resolution only reduced the keyboard input lag for me.

The workaround that really fixed it was setting the terminal output to console only:

/etc/default/grub.d$ cat custom.cfg
GRUB_TIMEOUT=1
GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=countdown
GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT=console

(GRUB 2.06)

Hello,

From my experience, grub in UEFI uses GOP driver to displays. So you may need to test your device.

In grub menu entry, press "c" key to enter grub command line mode. Input a command "videoinfo" and press "Enter" key.

I guess your GOP driver supports 1080 at most.

reproduce:
1. Link a high resolution screen
2. Install GRUB and config GRUB_GFXMODE=3840x2160 to fit screen resolution
3. remake grub.cfg

what it should be:
GUI rendering and system selection should be immediately respond

what actually be:
In my two devices, GRUB renders very slow and lags. After OEM logo disappear, it almost take 4 seconds to finish rendering first GUI scene. And after finishing rendering, every key pressed (Arr up, arr down, enter) lagged for 1 second to respond, I even cannot select correct system.

If I config GRUB_GFXMODE to 1080p, the problem will disappear, but the clarity of the windows and linux startup interface will decrease.

It seems other person with certain hardware are facing the same problem.
