Historically, FreeType was meant for scalable fonts. All bitmap font support was contributed by motivated volunteers like yourself who needed it. This is how BDF, PCF, and FON support came to be.

So, roll up your sleeves and start coding if it matters to you.

(1) doesn't make sense... Linux kernel support doesn't help X11 applications.

(2) is valid, but in practice it seems PSF fonts don't install PCF conversions, and having two copies of each font seems ugly anyway.

> Somebody needs to contribute the code or provide good rationale for it. On the other hand, there is a case against it: 1) Linux kernel support is sufficient and FreeType is not needed, 2) tools exist to convert to and from PSF font. A counterproposal would be to switch kernel to PCF fonts.

What does the Linux kernel have to do with it? When someone makes an application on a non-Linux system, copies the FreeType source code in their project and includes the FreeType source files, they don't suddenly have the Linux kernel out of nowhere.

It would be nice to support Linux's PSF font format.
