I think this is a duplicate of bug #45654. There's a patch there that I haven't looked at or tested. Please close as a duplicate if you agree that it's the same issue.

This only happens in cli mode (i.e. --no-gui(-libs)). I have "emacs" as default EDITOR. If I edit a file using the "edit" function, a new emacs instance is open in a separate window. Now, if I come back to the octave terminal and press Ctrl+C, it'll echoe "^C" at the prompt and close the emacs window I was working on whether or not it had been modified.

This bug does not qualify as a crash per se but we are doing something very wrong such that emacs quits without proposing to save your data first. Maybe we are passing the interrupt signal to emacs somehow?
