The mxe-octave project allows any user to cross-compile Octave for Windows with any custom configuration they want to experiment with, including using Qt 4 instead of Qt 5.

The official builds will continue to use Qt 5, and Octave will be dropping support for Qt 4 completely, probably with version 6.

Closing as won't fix. If you would like help using and building Octave using mxe-octave, please ask on the help mailing list (https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/help-octave).

Hi,

Since the version 4.2.2 that Octave switched to build against Qt5 there have been bugs in GUI and plotting functionalities that I think they are directly or indirectly related to Qt5:

Memory consumption of figure command going up significantly from 4.2 to 4.4 bug#55052
Updating graphics object consumes memory bug#55064
Memory leak in graphics subsystem bug#55287
octave-gui 4.4.1 doesn't work in Windows XP and Windows Vista bug#54662 and bug#54199

So I want to ask you to provide 7z binaries of Octave that has been built against Qt4 so I and possibly other users that have low quality OS/RAM/GPU can use Octave.

PS: I am a user of Windows XP.

Regards.
