When ./configure cannot find a curses.h header file, it only gives a warning and completes its run.  If you don't pay attention, the warning will scroll off the screen and you will try to run make which will then unexpectedly fail.

Expected behavior: ./configure should fail when the essential curses.h file is missing (and --with-slang is not given).
