I fixed this on the development branch here http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/298c6a6bd869.

I would probably use your workaround for the time being until the 4.4.0 release.

The mkoctfile program tries to forward flags it doesn't know about, but it mishandles the (unfortunately shaped) icc (and ifort?) flag -fp-model, which has a separate arg following it.

This can sort of be worked around by using the undocumented form "-fp-model=NAME", but it would be nice if this was handled correctly.
