It appears that the equivalent functionality in Matlab is in the statistics package under the name crosstab. I renamed table.m to crosstab.m and also modified it to be more like the Matlab function. Eventually, in the 4.4 release, a lot of the statistics functions are going to be migrated out of core Octave and placed in the statistics package. I wrote a note about that in the NEWS file for 4.4. The whole cset is here http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/2b836112d943.

More to the point, Octave has a table function that has nothing to do with Matlab's table array type.

We might want to rename / deprecate the Octave table function to something else, if anyone finds whatever it does useful.

Table command supports only 1 or 2 inputs,
while matlab supports any number of inputs.
