As an aside, check the documentation for annotation. The default "units" property is set to normalized which means X and Y values should be in the range [0, 1]. Quoting from the documentation:

It also helps to have an existing axes object before adding an annotation. Try the following

try

annotation("textarrow",[.2 .50],[.21 .3])

I attempted to put annotations on a figure but nothing would appear. I used annotation("textarrow",[40 2e12],[15 1e12]) but nothing would appear. I tried annotation('textarrow',[40 2e12],[15 1e12]) and that didn't work either. I tried other annotations like just an arrow or a line, but those didn't come up either. I tried switching the x and y parameters around and with different data, but that didn't help.
