The below-base rra is not centered below the rra in FreeSans and FreeSans Bold.

Regarding the self-standing, vertical rra+rra. This was a bit of a mess due to some constraints.

First I didn't like to make a ligature of the stacked glyph, because usinge the available glyphs un-altered, it would be too tall to fit the BB. But I want to associate the conjunct early for 'mlm2', and support the horizontal subscript form of rrarra.

I ended up first selectively substituting the subscript rrarra, and if that doesn't happen, decompose the temporary auxiliary rrarra so that the below-form of the second rra could be substituted. Could it have been done better? Sure.

These are two separate issues.

The second affects two combinations that I know of:
&#x0d28;&#x0d4d;&#x0d31; <br />
But it is font-independent. That is, this is a bug, but it appears not to be a font bug.

The first is a matter of cross purposes of the auxiliary glyph mal_rrarra. That is formed as a step in forming the below-base glyph for the combination, but it shouldn't be formed in non-below-base situations. I'll have to think about it.

Section 12.9 of The Unicode Standard 10.0, pages 506–507, describe U+0D31 MALAYALAM LETTER RRA. FreeSans and FreeSerif do not fully follow the standard.

“The sequence <0D31, 0D4D, 0D31> is rendered as ⸦ṟa with below-base ṟa⸧” but FreeFont renders it as a ṟa followed by a ṟa.

“The sequence <0D7B, 0D4D, 0D31> is rendered as ⸦chillu n with below-base ṟa⸧” but FreeFont renders it as a chillu n with a candrakkala followed by a ṟa.
