Yes, I was the original reporter.  I don't see this anymore.  I don't know why, given that KDE is based on Qt, but there lots of weird issues running the Octave GUI with Qt.  One of the issues that just kills me is the fact that undocked widgets in KDE can't be re-positioned.  At least I can adjust their size now, thanks to some changes by Torsten, but KDE refuses to let me move the detached widgets so I always have to leave them embedded in the interface.

Holy crap, just figured out that I can move windows by using Alt+Left Click.  That helps enormously.  I guess the issue is that KDE doesn't see these undocked widgets as full windows and doesn't put the decorations, like a title bar, on them.  There was nothing for the window manager to grab so I couldn't move them.

If only we could force KDE to put window decorations on these...

Anyways, closing this report.

Is this issue fixed now?

Can we close this report?

Mike thanks, works for me, too. I didn't know that you just have to drag the "second" title bar.

In Gnome, I can re-dock a detached panel by dragging it. Dragging it by the title bar added by the window manager keeps it separate, but dragging it by the topmost area within the panel, between the title ("File Explorer" for example) and the re-dock and close buttons, shows the shaded dock regions in the main window and reattaches it when it is released.

Philip, I am confused:

Re-docking an undocked pane seems harder - I have to try several times.

Is this possible by drag and drop? I think the only way for re-docking is the related button?

Same goes for moving a tabbed pane out of the tab stack into its own spot in the GUI.

This works wihtout problems for me by drag and drop.

I see similar things happening with AFAICS any pane in the GUI.
But after a little while (~1-2 secs after releasing the mouse knob) the GUI apparently reconfigures itself and the remnant copy in the GUI of the dragged out pane disappears.

This is with KDE on Mageia-6.

If I drag the Variable Editor so that it would sit on top of the command window, but still within the GUI, then I visually get two copies of the Variable Editor. The first copy is to the right of the Command Window, but is not viable. The copy that should be above the Command Window is, instead, undocked.

It's weird, so I attached a screenshot.  This is with KDE, which might be part of the problem.
