This has already been discovered and discussed, closing as a duplicate of bug #51452.

(At least seen on Windows; I can't check on Linux right now)

With the qt graphics tookit, when zoom or pan buttons are selected, ginput doesn't return valid output. It just returns empty scalar values for requested output.

With the fltk graphics toolkit this works fine AFAICS (at least the pan button doesn't affect ginput(); fltk graphics windows have no zoom buttons).

In Matlab (r2017), the zoom & pan buttons (actually, all graphics window buttons) are grayed out (made inactive) as soon as the ginput() command is submitted.
IMO Octave should behave the same.

An Octave-4.0.3 release already shows this, so this is quite an old issue.
