Octave is a superset of Matlab. It often has additional features, such as the more specific end keywords like endif, endfor, etc. or the additional comment character '#'. Although iscomplex is just ! isreal, it can sometimes make the code clearer if the programmer can write exactly what they mean. If the programmer wants to test whether a variable is complex it doesn't hurt to have a function specifically for that.

I did some research and it is clear: matlab has no function iscomplex.
Instead it has a function isreal as octave does.

The bug in isreal if fixed must also trigger an according chage in iscomplex, to that the functions fit together again.
I would suggest to deprecate iscomplex,
since is it just !isreal(x) (and also should be).
