David,

I have made the final modifications you requested. See the attachment. I have to freeze things at this point to issue the next release. I plan to release Unifont 10.0.05 on 12 July 2017. Please do not request any other changes until after the Unifont 10.0.05 release is online.

Thank you,

Paul Hardy

David,

If you want to get these changes in Unifont, please just send the Unifont hex encodings to me. I need to issue the next Unifont release as soon as possible and it will not happen if many more changes have to happen.

Thanks,

Paul Hardy

The new U+1DB9 looks good.

U+1D9C MODIFIER LETTER SMALL C, U+1D9D MODIFIER LETTER SMALL C WITH CURL, and U+1DB4 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL ESH are one pixel shorter than other superscript lowercase letters.

U+1D72 LATIN SMALL LETTER R WITH MIDDLE TILDE, U+1D75 LATIN SMALL LETTER T WITH MIDDLE TILDE, U+1D76 LATIN SMALL LETTER Z WITH MIDDLE TILDE, and U+1D7D LATIN SMALL LETTER P WITH STROKE are too short.

U+01B1 LATIN CAPITAL LETTER UPSILON, U+028A LATIN SMALL LETTER UPSILON, U+1D7F LATIN SMALL LETTER UPSILON WITH STROKE, and U+1DB7 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL UPSILON should have consistent serifs. The same goes for U+0269 LATIN SMALL LETTER IOTA and U+1D7C LATIN SMALL LETTER IOTA WITH STROKE.

The bottom two legs of U+1D1F LATIN SMALL LETTER SIDEWAYS TURNED M are one pixel apart. For consistency with U+026F LATIN SMALL LETTER TURNED M, they should be two pixels apart.

U+1D16 LATIN SMALL LETTER TOP HALF O is two pixels too low.

David,

How is the attached file?

I did not want U+1DB9 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL V WITH HOOK to look too much like a Greek upsilon. If this looks good, I will use the same shape for U+028B LATIN SMALL LETTER V WITH HOOK.

I am also going to change Greek chi to resemble U+1D6A.

U+1D6C through U+1D6E are too small. They should have ascenders, like the letters they are based on.

U+1D45 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL ALPHA looks like a Greek alpha instead of a Latin alpha.

U+1D9B MODIFIER LETTER SMALL TURNED ALPHA is horizontally symmetrical but its non-superscript form, U+0252 LATIN SMALL LETTER TURNED ALPHA, isn’t.

U+1D4C MODIFIER LETTER SMALL TURNED OPEN E should look like a turned U+1D4B MODIFIER LETTER SMALL OPEN E; that is, its crossbar should be one pixel lower than it is in the attachment. U+1D9F MODIFIER LETTER SMALL REVERSED OPEN E should have U+1D4C’s glyph from the attachment.

U+1D77 LATIN SMALL LETTER TURNED G is still not a turned U+0067 LATIN SMALL LETTER G: it is incorrectly mirrored over a horizontal axis.

U+1DB3 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL S WITH HOOK is short compared to other superscript lowercase letters like U+1D43 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL A.

U+1DB9 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL V WITH HOOK has a pointier bottom than U+028B LATIN SMALL LETTER V WITH HOOK.

U+1DBE MODIFIER LETTER SMALL EZH should have a descender.

Most of these problems are still present in Unifont 10.0.04.

I have overhauled this entire block in the Unifont 10.0.04 release, just uploaded. Hopefully the result is satisfactory.

Tue 04 Jul 2017 06:59:49 PM UTC, original submission:

Many glyphs are one pixel too high: U+1D10 LATIN LETTER SMALL CAPITAL OPEN O, U+1D2F MODIFIER LETTER CAPITAL BARRED B, U+1DA6 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL CAPITAL I, U+1DA7 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL CAPITAL I WITH STROKE, and U+1DB1 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL BARRED O.

U+1D54 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL TOP HALF O and U+1D55 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL BOTTOM HALF O do not look like the top and bottom halves of U+1D52 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL O.

U+1D61 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL CHI does not descend below the baseline, unlike U+03C7 GREEK SMALL LETTER CHI.

U+1D4B MODIFIER LETTER SMALL OPEN E and U+1D4C MODIFIER LETTER SMALL TURNED OPEN E both have a middle crossbar. That crossbar is one pixel too low on the former and one pixel too high on the latter.

U+1D74 LATIN SMALL LETTER S WITH MIDDLE TILDE is missing a pixel at the bottom.

U+1D77 LATIN SMALL LETTER TURNED G is not a turned U+0067 LATIN SMALL LETTER G: it is mirrored over a horizontal axis.

U+1D83 LATIN SMALL LETTER G WITH PALATAL HOOK does not look much like U+0261 LATIN SMALL LETTER SCRIPT G. It looks squished.

U+1D8F LATIN SMALL LETTER A WITH RETROFLEX HOOK and U+1D94 LATIN SMALL LETTER REVERSED OPEN E WITH RETROFLEX HOOK have palatal hooks instead of retroflex hooks.

U+1D90 LATIN SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH RETROFLEX HOOK has an a instead of an alpha.

U+1D91 LATIN SMALL LETTER D WITH HOOK AND TAIL has a short descender instead of a tail, which in this context means retroflex hook.

U+1D9B MODIFIER LETTER SMALL TURNED ALPHA is not a superscript U+0252 LATIN SMALL LETTER TURNED ALPHA. Also, it is one pixel too low.

U+1DA1 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL DOTLESS J WITH STROKE should have a descender.

U+02E1 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL L, U+1DA9 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL L WITH RETROFLEX HOOK, and U+1DAA MODIFIER LETTER SMALL L WITH PALATAL HOOK are inconsistent about the top serif. Also, U+1DA9 should have a descender.

U+1DAB MODIFIER LETTER SMALL CAPITAL L is two pixels too high.

The legs of U+1DAF MODIFIER LETTER SMALL N WITH RETROFLEX HOOK should be one pixel longer so they reach the baseline.

U+1DB3 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL S WITH HOOK is two pixels too high and is inconsistent with U+02E2 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL S.

U+1DB9 MODIFIER LETTER SMALL V WITH HOOK is two pixels too high and is inconsistent with U+028B LATIN SMALL LETTER V WITH HOOK.

U+1DBA MODIFIER LETTER SMALL TURNED V, U+1DBB MODIFIER LETTER SMALL Z, U+1DBC MODIFIER LETTER SMALL Z WITH RETROFLEX HOOK, U+1DBD MODIFIER LETTER SMALL Z WITH CURL, and U+1DBE MODIFIER LETTER SMALL EZH are three pixels too high. Because they are so high, they are also squished.
