Here's a test file I was using, to compare the behavior with some popular fonts.

Hi,

Today's commit is intended to improve the connection of vowels with nya and nga.

In syllables like ⟨ಙಾ⟩ where the headstroke of the consonant curves downward, the consonant should be connected to the vowel sign by a line curving up from the end of the headstroke. Instead, FreeSerif attaches the vowel sign directly to the top of the headstroke.

In FreeSerif, U+0CBE KANNADA VOWEL SIGN AA, U+0CBF KANNADA VOWEL SIGN I, U+0CC6 KANNADA VOWEL SIGN E, U+0CCC KANNADA VOWEL SIGN AU, and U+0CCD KANNADA SIGN VIRAMA do not look good on some consonants. In ⟨ಙಾ ಞಾ ಱಾ ಙೆ ಞೆ ಱೆ ಙೌ ಞೌ ಱೌ ಙ್ ಞ್ ಱ್⟩, the mark overlaps the consonant’s top right curve such that the bottom left corner of the mark is visible. In ⟨ಱಿ ಚೆ ಟೆ ಳೆ⟩, there is a partial gap between the headstroke and the mark such that the top left corner of the mark is visible. In ⟨ಣೆ ಪೆ ಫೆ ವೆ ಶೆ ಷೆ ಹೆ ಶೌ ಷೌ ಹೌ⟩, there is a complete gap between the headstroke and the mark.
