This will happen 5 times out of 36 on average, when gnubg rolls 63, 54, 45, 36 or 33 (a little less in practice, since the hits will sometimes be blocked by outfield points).

This is hardly uncommon. Moreover you tend to notice the devastating hits more than the mundane misses.

Hey guys,

I enjoy GNU Backgammon, I play it all the time, great program.
The following scenario is occurring far too often during a particular end-game play in Intermediate mode:

Computer has one piece in my home at 21
I have open piece on 12.
then, predictably...
Computer rolls 9.

This happens so often that when I find myself in this position I say "Magic Nine" before the computer rolls. Maybe you can help me understand why this is.

Regards
Steve
