I chose GNOME instead of KDE on OpenSUSE Leap 42.2.
Then octave-GUI did not hang.

fcitx may be the cause of a crash of octave-GUI on OpenSUSE Leap 42.2 and KDE.

Unfortunately, version 4.0.3 is deprecated and no longer supported. Try to find version 4.2.1 in your repositories, or you can build Octave from source code to get a newer version.

I executed the command line as described below on OpenSUSE Leap 42.2.

#/usr/bin/octave --force-gui

Then Octave-GUI hanged for the first time after booting.

I had installed those packages as described below

octave , octave-cli , octave-doc
