Just to leave no question unanswered:

Thank you for reporting back. About comment #1, do you mean, that something like

creates a new file with the output of type filled-in? I'm curious ;-)

Apologies, I remember trying 'type' when that question was first raised, I admit I put '4.2.0' to this bug without testing 'type' this time. I raised the bug because I didn't find another one with the description "command-line function" here.

I can confirm 'type' works as expected (and also that 'edit' spawns a new file with the definition), happy for this to be closed.

Does "type" meet your requirement or do you explicitly need the defining line?

Admittedly, it is not very easy to find help about command-line functions. Please report back, so maybe we can close this issue soon.

As per http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15260023/how-to-see-function-body-in-gnu-octave, there is no way to refer back to the correct definition of a command-line function in an octave session (let alone dump its definition in the terminal).

Ideally, one should obtain the filename and line where it is defined (or the line of the interpreter for the current session) when querying it with the "which" command, as for normal functions.
