I can't duplicate this so I'm going to have to close the report. You could try upgrading to 4.2.1 to see if that resolves the issue. From what I know about subplot, this could also have to do with the specific graphics card you have.

This is using default qt. Doesn't seem to happen with fltk.

Can't really tell if the way I run makes a difference as it's intermittent. Usually I copy/paste (or go up/down arrow in history) line by line in the command window.

Seems this does it every time:

1. Launch new Octave GUI instance
2. >> freqz([1 2 1]/4)
3. >> subplot(2,1,1)

Which graphics toolkit are you using? Try switching to one of the others to check if it is a particular issue with that toolkit.

How are you executing the series of commands? Are they in an m-file which you execute, then close the figure, then execute the m-file again? Are you using copy and paste or run_history?

In 4.2.0 the following no longer works (or works intermittently):

freqz([-1/32 0 9/32 16/32 9/32 0 -1/32]);
hold all, subplot(2,1,1), hold all;
freqz([-1/16 0 5/16 8/16 5/16 0 -1/16]);

Try closing figure, repeat, close...

In 4.0.x this used to yield overlapping plots with alternating color scheme consistently, run after run.
