It's implemented already (in "master" and in "screen-v4").

This is not only on RHEL, it looks like this feature is not implemented in screen itself.

When using screen -L if you type this in a directory where you don't have write permission, there is no log file and no warning or error message.

Could the program show a warning or default to write to the users home directory? Failing a home directory write, a warning would be shown on screen?
