This is done. Songanizer now uses 'find' instead of 'ls'. I am attaching the patch for Songanizer 0.5.

Thank you for the compliments, I am happy somebody has a use for songanizer!

I am not a perl hacker and will therefore opt for the first solution. I will try to use find instead of ls as soon as I get some time!

Great idea! I actually began a project to do just this, but it was a more interactive version that would run through a list of mp3 files and prompt the user to assign it to a genre. Never got far, unfortunately, and an automated version is in some ways nicer.

In any case, I've found a few issues with your implementation. I'll list them in separate reports here. The first is that the shell will complain if there are too many files on the command line (the ls command you run to get the files in the _data directory). I have 3000 in one directory, and it silently failed. One solution would be to use find instead of ls. Another crazier idea would be to reimplement it in perl, say, which has a find module.
