@John, thanks for your advice, as in comment #3,
building libgomp fixed the problem.

Re-titling the bug to reflect the real problem according to comment #4.

The issue is probally that libgomp isn't dependant on the gcc built, so on updates to build-gcc, gomp didn't get rebuilt.

I had the same error and got it to compile successfully after I built libgomp separately by calling "make build-only-libgomp".

FWIW, I re-cloned & rebuilt mxe-octave yesterday (I figured my mxe-octave tree got a bit out-of-date) and I didn't see this error with an Octave-dev tip of yesterday night (Sep 1th)

I've seen this happen after a few packages changed and it not rebuilding everything that it should have.

Was this from a complete new build?

If not, try after a make clean - gcc version (and hence libgomp version) changed and if both didn't get rebuilt, it wont work.
